The ILLVILLE Film Package

Illville is a dramatic satire about a cop unintentionally starting a war with the city’s notorious gang after shooting and killing a young black teen. It was originally created as a TV pilot in 2019 when the story ironically paralleled with the writer and producer’s real life.

This unexpected, life-changing event put a hold on the progression of this project; but now it’s being used as a sample to produce the heavily requested, new full-length movie, ILLVILLE.

Value

Low Budget, Big Accolades

Illville, the sample, received worldwide accolades for the 45 minute, low-budget sample that was produced with less than $5,000. The filmmakers are highly skilled at producing a lot with a little which makes way for guaranteed, larger profits.

Strong, Passionate Audience

In 2020, as Illville was still gaining traction in the festival world and on its way to Cannes, France for the International Pan-African Film Festival, police brutality met the filmmakers at the doorstep of their Florida property.

The case went viral across the internet with over 2 million combined views, and news articles are still surfacing in November 2021. The body camera video, revealing the unbelievable tragedy, reached over 300,000 views worldwide in the first week alone.

This is significant, because Illville is a film that highlights police brutality; and the filmmakers coincidentally became victims in a police brutality case that shook the internet. Followers of the case are suspicious of the coincidence, because the police randomly parked in the filmmakers’ driveway after Illville was produced and already gaining traction. Now, there are pending civil suits for a numerous amount of wrongful violations against Illville’s makers.

As their case against law enforcement continues to grow, so has the suspicion and curiosity of their supporters. They’ve been receiving a numerous amount of requests to see Illville. And the film has yet to be publicly released.

The Sky Is The Limit

The filmmakers’ police brutality story captured the hearts of millions, and the case is still young. Followers and supporters await their lawsuits in hopes of accountability for the police officers involved as justice has yet to be served. As this anticipation builds, it can be used as leverage to also continue building the anticipation and gaining momentum for the release of ILLVILLE.

Audience

ILLVILLE satisfies adults with an interest in social justice and police accountability who can appreciate humor being brought to the subject matter. It also appeals to those who respect and enjoy the rawness of films that include sexual content, some nudity, adult-language, crime, and violence.

As mentioned above, anticipation for the release of ILLVILLE continues to grow as the producers prepare their civil suits for their tragic experience with police. A sample size of 50,000 from this particular audience was found to be mostly male adults between ages 25-54. Overall, the audience consists of roughly 70% male and 30% female between ages 18-65.

Audience for Power (TV Series 2014-2020)

Power is a good example of the content matter for ILLVILLE. This Starz hit TV show involves nudity, crime, violence, adult-language, and it even shares the same gritty tone and type of setting as ILLVILLE. These similarities might result in attracting close to the same type of audience for ILLVILLE. Power’s audience was roughly 45% female and 55% male with 52% of the overall audience being adults between ages 18-49.

Movie Prospectus

Here are 3 comparative movies to help explore the projection for ILLVILLE’s performance.

Blindspotting (2018)

This movie swings between high drama and low comedy.

Like ILLVILLE, this film’s genre is a mix between Crime, Comedy, and Drama. While these films devastatingly represent a reality we like to forget exists, they are also frequently humorous, heartfelt, and in touch with the humanity of modern-day America and the problems we face. There are scenes that will sadden you, scenes that will make you laugh, and scenes that will make you appreciate some of the more subtle commentary and incredible dialogue.

#BlackLivesMatter

Early in the film, Collin sees a fleeing Black man shot in the back by a pursuing White cop. “Blindspotting” plagues Collin visually with nightmarish dream sequences and morbid visions of the dead to evoke the awful truth that to be Black in America is to constantly exist in a state of perpetual post-traumatic stress disorder.

ILLVILLE somewhat shares this similarity when Sherman King, father of a black teen who’s shot by a white cop, is later haunted by hallucinations after taking the most addictive drug circulating around the city.

Caucasian & Black Duo

Jimmy Lynch and Marquise Tolken are partners on the police force in ILLVILLE. Lynch is a white male who serves as the lead character in the film; and his partner, Tolken, is a black man who has his back. This combination makes the film more receptive and appealing across racial demographics.

The Hate U Give (2018)

Crime, Drama, Black Guy Shot By White Cop…

It’s the same typical #BlackLivesMatter story, but these films tend to perform well in today’s society for obvious reasons.

A Morning Consult poll, conducted less than a month after the May 25th police killing of George Floyd, reinvigorated the Black Lives Matter movement, found that 4 in 5 Black adults want to see films about present-day Black American experiences.

Slavery and civil rights stories are the stories that white audiences think of when thinking of Black individuals. But data shows it pays to listen to what Black audiences want.

According to the Hollywood Diversity Report, minority audiences accounted for the majority of ticket sales for eight of the 10 highest-grossing films in 2019.

ILLVILLE is the first of its kind being about a drug gang avenging the death of a black teen who’s shot by a white police officer. As the demand for social justice is at an all-time high, so is the demand for a film that satisfies this fantasy.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988)

The Magic of Animation and Live-Action

Though this film dates back to the 1980s, it is still considered relevant in this case. And it’s actually currently performing better in Home Market sales than many of the more recent films made today with $2,433,518 in Blu-ray sales as of January 24, 2021.

Nostalgia is a powerful tool. What adult wouldn’t appreciate a movie that merges adult content with childhood memories through cartoon animation?

The sample of Illville made in 2019 was unable to contain animations due to its ultra low budget of less than $5,000. But ILLVILLE, the movie, will include these cartoon animations as originally intended.

The new script for the ILLVILLE feature film details hallucinations of characters under the influence of the city’s most problematic drug, Floaters. These hallucinations open the characters’ minds to a fantasy world in which the script writer incorporates cartoon characters in adult settings. This type of combination was and still is a major selling point for Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988), and so will it be for ILLVILLE as well.

Illville (2019)

After comparing to Blindspotting (2018), The Hate U Give (2018), and Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988)

Let’s discuss ILLVILLE. The script for the full-length feature film is complete and continues from where the sample film left off with animated hallucinations, burlesque-style night club routines, and other upgrades added to the film that the budget now allows for.

Logline

A disgruntled police officer starts a war with Illville’s notorious gang when he unknowingly shoots the drug lord’s nephew.

Genres

This feature fits under the genres of Action, Crime, Comedy, and Drama. And it works well since recent studies have found that Action and Comedy are the most popular film genres amongst African-Americans today. And as mentioned before, 81% of African-Americans prefer to see more films about the present-day African-American experience which is somewhat becoming a genre of its own.

Characters

The lead character is Jimmy Lynch, a white male police officer. His partner is a black cop named Marquise Tolken who sometimes grows tired of Jimmy’s slick remarks; yet, he’s faithful. And then there’s their nemesis, Slim King, Illville’s notorious drug lord who wants Goon (his right hand man) to help him avenge his nephew’s death.
